Research Institutes, Centres, Labs and Initiatives and our Society of Fellows
The Faculty of Arts at HKU is home to a network of research centres that drive interdisciplinary scholarship and creativity across the humanities, languages, culture, and emerging technologies. Emerging areas are championed by the AI and Humanity Lab, exploring ethical and cultural dimensions of artificial intelligence; our Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Culture, examining transnational flows and cultural encounters; the China Humanities and Global Studies Hub, focusing on China's global cultural engagement; and the Centre for Humanities and Medicine, bridging arts, social sciences, and health through research in medical ethics and narrative medicine. The new Institute of Transnational History of China explores the flow of ideas, people and trade between China and other countries, past and present. Together, these centres foster collaboration, experimentation, and public engagement, positioning HKU Arts as a leading force in interdisciplinary humanities research in Asia and beyond.
