BA
Studying Arts at HKU has been an inspiring and empowering journey for me. I chose HKU Arts because of its open and flexible BA structure, which allows me to explore creativity from multiple perspectives. During my first year, I had many opportunities to take courses across different disciplines, which helped me explore interests and better understand future academic direction. The Faculty of Arts also offers a wide range of activities and learning opportunities beyond the classroom, allowing me to stay curious and enrich my university experience in meaningful ways. One of my most memorable experiences was in GCIN classroom, where students from around the world shared stories about their cultures and creative industries. Hearing how creativity grows in different social contexts helped me see familiar ideas in new ways. HKU Arts has been a journey of exploration that continues to shape who I am and who I hope to become.
BA&BEng(AI&DataSc)
Choosing to study the Bachelor of Art and Bachelor of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at HKU Arts was a deliberate decision to place myself at the intersection of intellectual rigor, creativity, and global perspective. Coming from Zimbabwe, I was drawn to HKU’s commitment to critical inquiry and its openness to diverse cultural voices. My program has encouraged me to think across disciplines, ask difficult questions, and connect ideas to real social contexts rather than treat knowledge as abstract. One of my key takeaways from HKU Arts has been learning how to articulate complex ideas with clarity and purpose through writing, discussion, and collaborative group research projects. The Faculty has shaped my intellectual confidence and sharpened my sense of responsibility as a global citizen.
Memorable moments include late night discussions with peers from around the world, where different histories and perspectives challenged my assumptions and expanded my worldview. HKU Arts has been instrumental in shaping not only how I think, but why I think.
BA&BEng(AI&DataSc)
As one of the first cohort of students in this new double degree programme, I am excited to have the opportunity to explore new perspectives on the intersection of AI and humanity. This innovative programme not only equips me with technical knowledge in programming but also encourages me to think critically about the role of technology in our society.
BA&BEng(AI&DataSc)
I chose HKU’s dual-degree programme because it uniquely bridges rigorous AI engineering with the critical perspective of the Arts—essential for developing responsible technology. My key takeaway from HKU Arts, especially through courses like “AI & Humanity,” is that innovation must be grounded in ethical inquiry. The required discussion sections, unfamiliar from my secondary education, have profoundly influenced my development by training me to articulate and defend ideas, turning passive learning into active critical thinking.
BA(GCIN)
My name is Antonia Espinoza and I am a Year 1 student pursing a Bachelor of Arts in Global Creative Industries. Coming from Chile, studying at HKU was a bit intimidating, I had never been to Asia before, so I thought the culture shock would be very hard to adjust to.
Surprisingly, coming to Hong Kong for my studies has been one of the best decisions I have made! The University is very international and the people are really welcoming. I have been enjoying getting to know people from all over the world and exploring the city! HKU and HKU Arts have given me the opportunity to pursue multiple areas I’m really interested in, and expand my global outlook
BA(GCIN)
Driven by my passion for the arts, I chose HKU after learning about the revamped GCIN curriculum, which encourages exploration across the many faces of creative production. Since beginning my studies, I have encountered a dedicated and diverse community—professors who are industry leaders and classmates from around the world who share a common ambition: to engage with today’s biggest questions and shape what’s next.
Some of my most meaningful learning experiences took place beyond the classroom. A field trip for my Nature-Inspired Innovations course and my volunteer work with CEDARS showed me that the value of the arts and humanities extends beyond traditional boundaries, contributing to science, business, community building, and other areas where creative and critical thinking are essential. Although I am early in my academic journey, I’m excited to continue growing at HKU Arts and look forward to an education that’ll nurture my readiness for the future.
BA(GCIN)
After my first year studying the Bachelor of Arts in Global Creative Industries programme at HKU, my journey has been incredibly rewarding both academically and emotionally. With my background and interest in interdisciplinary arts, the GCIN programme provided me with the perfect environment to foster my curiosity with rich and engaging knowledge of the arts and its interaction with business, culture, history and identity. Additionally, as an international student from Vietnam, HKU's diverse student population and faculty grants me a great sense of belonging, finding Hong Kong to be a home away from home.
