Arts Maebashi, Japan
Jack Ma, BA (Japanese Studies), Year 4

The internship at Arts Maebashi, a contemporary public art museum in Gunma, Japan, was a highly enriching experience. Over three periods from September to December, I engaged in diverse tasks that deepened my understanding of art, culture, and community engagement.
In the first phase, I familiarized myself with the museum’s history and facilities through tours and city exploration, including visits to local landmarks. Assisting with exhibition setup provided insight into event preparation. The second phase involved research and cultural immersion, including visiting the “Ghost: When the Invisible Visible” exhibition, participating in the Maebashi Festival, and interviewing local artists and students. Meeting the mayor was a notable highlight, offering a rare opportunity to discuss community issues.
The final phase focused on project development, where I contributed to a promotional strategy for Arts Maebashi and Maebashi city, culminating in a presentation to staff. I also assisted with the exhibition’s closure, including artwork removal and cleaning.
Overall, the internship was a valuable journey of discovery—enhancing my cultural awareness, communication skills, and understanding of art’s role in community building. I am grateful for this meaningful experience.
Cher Pan, BA (Music and Art History), Year 4
The Czechia internship field trip was an unforgettable experience, offering a unique glimpse into a culture both distant and surprisingly familiar. Working with peers, HKU mentors, the Czech Consulate, and local artists, we developed a final project that celebrated Czech art and tradition. Our journey began at Hong Kong Art Central’s Czech-Hong Kong booth, showcasing contemporary Czech art. In Prague and Brno, we visited artist studios, theaters, and museums, and attended performances at the Prague Spring International Music Festival, witnessing how local traditions blend with global influences.
A highlight was visiting the Museum of Literature, which creatively expressed Czech identity through interactive exhibits accessible even to non-Czech speakers. As an Art History student, I found it inspiring and reflective of innovative curatorial approaches.
For our final project, we delivered a presentation on Czech music and theater, connecting traditional roots with modern perspectives. I also curated a Prague dessert guide, blending my passion for food with cultural exploration. Overall, this trip deepened my appreciation for how Czech artists fuse arts, history, and daily life, and I am grateful for the friendships and cultural bridges built through this experience.
Elisa Suter, BA (Linguistics), Year 2
Participating in the AI in Gaming Internship and Fieldtrip organized by Tuyoo Games was a highly enriching experience. As part of the first collaboration between Tuyoo and HKUArts, I gained valuable insights into game development, AI, and teamwork over two weeks in Beijing. A key takeaway was understanding the complexity behind the games we play—from design and art to storytelling and user experience. The highlight was creating a game from scratch based on the theme "Bridge." With guidance from industry professionals, our team transformed a simple idea into a playable product, demonstrating the power of creativity and collaboration. The mentorship provided continuous feedback, helping us refine our ideas and consider player perspectives. I also learned how AI tools support game development, from asset generation to content creation, highlighting AI’s growing role in the industry. Beyond technical skills, I developed communication, problem-solving, and project management abilities. The trip fostered meaningful connections with fellow HKUArts students and broadened my understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of game development. Overall, this experience deepened my industry knowledge, boosted my confidence, and inspired me to pursue a future in gaming. I am grateful to Tuyoo and HKUArts for this unique opportunity.
Czech Consulate, Prague

Tuyoo Games, Beijing

AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited, Hong Kong
Joycelyn Hui, BA (HDT), Year 3

Before my internship at AWEM, my understanding of the MICE industry was limited to academic lectures and outsider assumptions. I expected to learn event logistics and gain hands-on experience, but the experience exceeded these expectations. Working across two rotations—Business Technology and Public Relations & Marketing—provided a comprehensive view of how AWEM operates and the importance of cross-department collaboration.
In the IT rotation, I learned that enterprise software decisions prioritize data security and governance over convenience. I contributed to projects such as testing AI chatbots, developing Power BI dashboards, and redesigning workflow forms. A highlight was leading the redevelopment of a Yeeflow checklist, which improved operational efficiency for the Porter Team. This role taught me the value of understanding user needs and thinking creatively within platform constraints.
The PRM rotation immersed me in marketing and communication strategies. I contributed to social media campaigns, redesigned EDM layouts, and learned about ROI metrics beyond surface-level engagement. Observing workplace dynamics and managing expectations in the IT department taught me resilience and professionalism amid challenges. Overall, this internship enhanced my technical skills, fostered creativity, and deepened my understanding of organizational operations. It reinforced my passion for generating ideas and creating value, inspiring confidence in my future career.
Central Padel Nordic, Stockholm
Carl Lee, BA

To enrich my exchange journey, I have decided to take an internship programme in Sweden. I took up the role of Events Intern at Central Padel Nordic, a sports and events venue in Stockholm.
The major roles include proposing prospective events, facility management as well as event support. Not only did this internship allow me to explore and experience some of the tasks I have not been able to perform in Hong Kong, but also to learn about the working and living culture of Sweden. Any experience would be a good chance to learn. My learning towards this culture moved from secondary materials to studying and to hands-on immersive experiences. This made my learning more wholesome and holistic.
I am fortunate to have a trusting supervisor who allowed me to explore unfamiliar tasks. What is the most important lesson from this experience is to stay curious and be willing to try everything.
Grey (WPP Group), Hong Kong
Caroline Yang, BA (Global Creative Industries and Finance), Year 3

Happy to have worked as a planning intern at Grey (WPP) in Hong Kong this summer!
During this internship, I supported the planning team on several key accounts and new-business pitches. The work ranged from desk research and social listening to social audits. One highlight was converting a questionnaire into a mini-programme and gathering 20+ responses in 1 day for pitch research - seeing complex consumer observations turned into clear, usable insights was especially rewarding.
What made the experience stand out was the people. My mentors shared their knowledge and experience with patience and generosity. The team created an environment that was both rigorous and welcoming, and the group of interns I worked alongside built a genuine sense of rapport.
Thank you all for HKUArts and this Grey-t adventure, I hold deep appreciation for everyone who took the time to guide, challenge and support me along the way. I will carry forward all the insights, inspirations, and fond memories from this journey, looking forward to the next chapter!
Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio, Hong Kong
Catherine Cheng, BA (General Linguistics and Global and Area Studies), Year 3

During my internship at Tang Shu-wing Theatre Studio supporting the 2026 Hong Kong International Shakespeare Festival, I experienced firsthand the power of cultural exchange. Assisting with front-of-house and backstage operations for international performers from the UK, Romania, and South Korea, I applied my language skills in a dynamic, multicultural environment.
This opportunity allowed me to connect my academic knowledge with practical experience, boosting my confidence and deepening my appreciation for global theatre. It also expanded my cultural curiosity and showed me that I can actively contribute to the arts beyond the classroom.
This internship reinforced the idea that our potential often lies in roles we have yet to explore. It was a transformative experience that broadened my perspective and inspired me to continue engaging with the arts on a global scale.
Virtually Versailles, Hong Kong
Janice Lam, BA (HDT)

As a BA(HDT) student, I am grateful for the opportunity to assist as a docent at the Virtually Versailles exhibition.
My digital humanities knowledge enabled me to promote the intersection of digital technologies and culture to the public. Leading tours and engaging with visitors enhanced my public speaking skills and allowed me to actively connect with audiences. This experience in the cultural industry was invaluable and complemented my 6- months of Art Basel internship, providing client-facing experience and promoting art and cultural events.
I strongly encourage you all to take the initiative and participate in different programs, as well as embrace trending digital technology skills to prepare for your future careers.
