Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities

The Faculty of Arts offers short-term programmes throughout the year to students at different levels of studies.  

In 2024, we offer face-to-face classes for Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities. The theme of the combination of humanities and digital technologies is across most of our carefully selected courses in the disciplines of Arabic Culture, Global and Area Studies, History, Linguistics, Museum Studies and Translation. Students from all over the world will have the opportunities to interact with classmates and award-winning academics while pursuing academic advancement. Programmes at undergraduate and high-school levels are now open for application. 


HKU and Arts Faculty have attained reputation and recognition worldwide. HKU ranks 26th in the world and 2nd in Asia by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings 2024, and 1st in world's most international universities, 30th in the world and 4th in Asia by Times Higher Education University Rankings 2023. HKU Linguistics ranks 12th by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023.

Entrance Requirements
  • Currently studying a bachelor/master's degree
  • Meets the undergraduate admission requirements of HKU (or other recognised Universities) by possessing adequate secondary school or sub-degree qualification.
Either one of the following level,
  • HK: S3-S6 
  • China: Junior 3 - Senior 3
  • UK & IB Level: Year 10-13
  • US: Grade 9-12
Language Requirements
Either one of the following Proof of English proficiency documents: 
  • IELTS (Academic Module): 6.5,
  • TOEFL iBT: 93,
  • IB Diploma: Grade 4,
  • GCSE / GCEO: Grade C or 4,
  • SAT Reasoning Test: 31 in Writing and Language and 30 in Reading, and
  • CET: Band 4 and Band 6.
(ONLY for students whose first language or teaching medium in the home institution is not English)
No specific language requirement is set for high students but offered course(s) will be taught in English.
