Internal Research Funding Schemes

The Faculty administers the Louis Cha Fund for Chinese Studies and East/West Studies, the Hsu Long-sing Research Fund and the Faculty Grants for Organizing Conference at HKU. The Faculty usually accepts applications for the Funds twice a year.

  1. Louis Cha Fund for Chinese Studies and East/West Studies​​

    ​The Fund, administered by the Louis Cha Fund Committee of Management, was set up in 1986 with a generous donation of $8 million from Dr. Louis Cha for the purpose of supporting and promoting teaching and research in Chinese studies and East/West studies in the Faculty of Arts of the University.
     

  2. ​​Hsu Long-sing Research Fund

    In 1979, Mr. Howard Hsu, Managing Director of Kiu Foong International Ltd. of Hong Kong and on of the late Mr. Hsu Long-sing, donated a sum of $2.5 million from the Hsu Long-sing Memorial Funds for the development of Chinese studies at the University. The fund should be used in the following areas of research projects:
    • Chinese historical studies;
    • China-West studies; and
    • studies in the Chinese aspects of Fine Arts.

  3. Faculty Grants for Organizing Conference at HKU

    The grant is an internal funding scheme to support academic staff to attend academic conferences.
