19 HKU students joined an educational field trip to Ethiopia led by Dr Facil Tesfaye of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures’ African Studies Programme and Dr Kofi Yakpo of the School of Humanities’ Department of Linguistics. Both African Studies and Linguistics offer field trips in their respective curriculums.

During the journey, members of the group worked with students and professors from the Universities of Addis Ababa, Aksum, Gondar and Bahir Dar on the various academic projects that they had prepared beforehand. The group also had the opportunity to visit the ancient capital cities of Aksum, Gondar and Lalibela to get a glimpse into the African continent’s long and complex history.
