Application for High School Programmes

2021 HKU Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities programmes are available for application on a rolling basis from December 29, 2020. All applications should be completed online via the HKU Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities online application system.

Duration of non-credit-bearing courses last for 1 week, with 3-hour lectures almost on a daily basis. Orientation will be arranged on each session’s start date. Please refer to the tables below for the details:

Application Procedures

  • Read the programme information and specific requirements.
  • Ensure that you have fulfilled the entrance requirements of HKU Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities.

  • Register and create a personal application account on HKU Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities online application system. An email acknowledgement will be sent to your registered e-mail address immediately.
  • Complete the online application form and upload all the requested supporting documents.
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee online.

* Application will be processed only when ALL supporting documents and the application fee reach our office before the deadline.

* Once the application has been submitted, amendments are NOT allowed. Please contact us if you wish to make changes to your personal particulars after submission of application. Applicants are strongly advised to check their details carefully before submitting the application and keep a record of their submission.

  • Confirm the offer via online application system when you receive the acceptance notice from HKU Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities.
  • Settle the payment of programme fee online.

*Please quote programme code, your application number and full name in all future correspondence with the HKU Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities.

Rolling Admission

Your application will be reviewed as soon as you submit the application and materials. Admission result will be announced on a rolling basis, subject to the decision of offering units.The earlier you apply, the greater chance for securing a place in the summer programme.

Application Materials

An applicant should submit a complete application online before the application deadline, please check programme details for specific requirements and application deadline of individual programmes.

Please prepare the following documents before you proceed with the online application.

Items Supporting Documents
Personal Identification

I.  Recent identity photograph of the applicant:

  • The photograph should not be smaller than 40 mm (W) x 50 mm (H) or 1200 pixel (W) x 1600 pixel (H)
  • Image type: PDF or JPG

II.  Photocopies of the applicant’s proof of identity:
     Local students

  • Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
Education and Qualification

I.  Photocopies of certificates and academic transcripts as specified in the application form:

  • If these are not in English, they must be accompanied by a translation in English
  • The documents should indicate: full name of school, full name of student and grading system/scale(e.g. 7=Excellent; 6=Very Good; 5=Good)
Additional Supporting Documents Additional documents as required by individual programme(s) e.g. recommendation letter from home institution, personal statement and short essay.


  1. Please indicate the types of supporting documents and your full name when uploading the files to our online application system. (e.g. Passport WONG Siu Ming Chris). File name must be in English.
  2. Maximum upload size for each file is 5MB.
  3. Please do not send any original documents to the University by post. The University is not responsible for any documents lost in the process
  4. Application will be processed only when ALL supporting documents are uploaded to the online application system before the deadline.
  5. HKU Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities reserves the right to cancel a programme should there be insufficient enrolment or any unforeseen circumstances. Programme dates, content and fee are subject to change without prior notice, students should pay attention to the programme website and email notification for new programme updates.
