The 'Cross-Rhythms' Concert, 25 July 2009.
This concert was one of the highlights of the first Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities. Master-drummer, Professor Gideon Alorwoyie directed professional musicians from Bali, Korea, Africa and Hong Kong, as well as students from the Summer Institute in the Arts & Humanities. Dr Manolete Mora introduced and moderated.
More than 60 performers participated in the concert, dancing, singing and playing percussion instruments. Among them were University Artist Dr Lung Heung-wing and his son, the famous Korean 'Molgae' ensemble, Alit Adiputra and his group from Bali, professional musicians from Hong Kong, the HKU Gamelan ensemble, local African dancers, and 30 students of the Summer Institute.
The concert was sponsored by the Indonesian Consulate, Garuda Airlines and The National Centre for Korean Traditional Performing Arts.
The Music Department provided instruments and technical devices. Chris Tam was the sound engineer. Thanks to everyone who helped make this concert a great event!
