The University of Hong Kong Rises 14 Places in the Times Higher Education World University Arts and Humanities’ Subject Ranking 2016-2017

3 October 2016 (Monday)

The University of Hong Kong has risen 14 places to 30th in the world in Arts and Humanities in the Times Higher Education World University Subject Rankings 2016-2017, announced on September 28, 2016, the largest move upward of any Faculty at HKU. HKU is one of only four Asian universities that made it into the top 50 in this year's arts and humanities subject ranking and is on par with other renowned institutions in the United States and Europe.

While university rankings and league tables vary widely because they each employ different criteria and methodologies, HKU's presence amongst the best institutions in the world in this subject can be regarded as recognition of the outstanding achievements by members of the Faculty of Arts.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings rely on five categories of activities, including teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook, to compile their rankings. HKU excelled in the international outlook category, with the highest score of all top 100 institutions worldwide for the Arts and Humanities. This result underscores the value of our international collaborations and highlights our ability to attract undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty from all over the world. It reinforces the pivotal part the Faculty of Arts plays in establishing HKU as Asia’s Global University.
