The University of Hong Kong Ranked Asia’s Top University in Arts and Humanities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016

The University of Hong Kong has been ranked no. 1 in Asia (jointly with the University of Tokyo) and 44th in the world in Arts and Humanities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016, announced on October 21, 2015. HKU is one of only two Asian universities that made it into the top 50 in this year's arts and humanities subject ranking.

While university rankings and league tables vary widely because they each employ different criteria and methodologies, HKU's presence amongst the best institutions in the world in this subject can be regarded as recognition of the outstanding achievements by members of our Faculty. The number one ranking in Asia is a welcome acknowledgement of our excellence in teaching and research, and follows on from the Faculty’s remarkable performance in the Research Assessment Exercise 2014.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings rely on five categories of activities, including teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook, to compile their rankings. HKU did particularly well in the international outlook category, with the joint highest score of all top 100 institutions worldwide for the Arts and Humanities. This result underscores the value of our international collaborations and highlights our ability to attract undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty from all over the world. It reinforces the pivotal part the Faculty plays in HKU's internationalization – one of the University’s three strategic themes for 2016-2019.
