Message from School of Chinese

It is with great shock and sadness that we mourn the passing of Dr. Felix C. H. Wong, an Assistant Professor in the School of Chinese at The University of Hong Kong, on 3 June 2014.

Dr. Wong graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000 and went on to pursue further studies at Tokyo University and London University, where he was awarded an MA degree. He did his PhD in the School of Chinese at The University of Hong Kong during the period 2004 - 2008. After obtaining his doctoral degree, Dr. Wong taught at the City University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He joined the School of Chinese at HKU as an Assistant Professor in September 2013. The courses that he designed and developed included "Christianity and Chinese Culture", "Islam and Chinese Culture" as well as "Religions on the Silk Road in Ancient Times". He also participated in the delivery of such courses as "Traditional Chinese Culture" and "Chinese History and Culture in the Twentieth Century".

As a young and promising academic, Dr. Wong was committed to the promotion of historical and cultural scholarship. And as a dynamic and dedicated teacher, he won high praise and made significant contributions. Proficient in many different languages, he conducted cutting-edge research on topics in Chinese and Western studies and produced a vast array of high-quality works, including a monograph on the activities of the Jesuits in late Ming and early Qing periods and an in-depth, innovative study of Shanhaijing, an ancient collection of Chinese mythological narratives. All his publications were highly rated and received critical acclaim.

Dr. Wong will be remembered for his original insights and intense interest in a wide spectrum of intellectual inquiry. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family.
