HKU Linguistics and Modern Languages Ranked in Global Top 20

HKU made the global top 20 universities in the world in Linguistics and Modern Languages in the latest QS University Subject Rankings announced on February 26, 2014. Modern Languages was ranked 17th and Linguistics 18th in this annual survey of the top 800 universities worldwide. A further two subjects, History and Philosophy, made the global top 50. The rankings are based on four key pillars, research, teaching, employability and internationalization.

While university rankings and league tables vary widely because they each employ different criteria and methodologies, HKU’s presence amongst the best institutions in the world in these subjects can be regarded as recognition of the outstanding achievements by members of our Faculty of Arts. It is a welcome acknowledgement of the Faculty’s excellence in teaching and research, and of the part it plays in providing a platform for HKU students to be well-rounded leaders with vision and humanity and the capacity to serve the local community and beyond.
