In this talk, Mr. Jussi Pylkkänen will illustrate some of the major works that he has sold over the years, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi.

Jussi was appointed the Global President of Christie's in 2014 after serving for ten years as President of Christie's Europe, Middle East and Russia.

He is a renowned specialist in the 20th Century Art field, having worked in this area for over 30 years, ten years of which he served as Director of the Impressionist and Modern Paintings Department, between 1995 and 2005.

He is most recognised publicly as Christie's Chief Auctioneer, wielding the gavel in countless sales across the globe each year and he serves as Chairman of Auctioneers at Christie's. Over a 20-year period, Jussi has taken major sales in every category and for many leading charities. He is perhaps best known as the first auctioneer to break the $100 million threshold in 2014, with Bacon's triptych of Lucian Freud, and has gone on to sell such celebrated works as Picasso's Femmes d'Algers for $179 million in 2015 and Modigliani's Nu Couche for $170 million in 2016. More recently, Jussi was in the rostrum for the stellar sale of Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi, which hit headlines around the world when it fetched a groundbreaking $450.3 million in November 2017.  Jussi also presided over the opening Evening Sale of The Rockefeller Collection, an auction totalling $646 million, selling 100% by lot and value.  The Rockefeller Collection overall went on to set 22 records, and Christie’s established a new level for any single owner Collection sale, a defining moment in the art market and in the history of the Company.

Jussi has an MBA in English Literature from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, is an alumnus of Christie’s Education, a Trustee of The Dulwich Picture Gallery, an Honorary Fellow of King's College, Wimbledon, a regular public speaker, a keen fly-fisherman and a collector of Scandinavian 20th Century Glass.
