Student Academic Advisers

Recruitment of Student Academic Advisers for 2018-19 (Application by March 9, 2018)

(A) Background

The Faculty of Arts is delighted to announce that we are now seeking the first cohort of Student Academic Advisers for 2018-19, with a view to providing more peer academic support to students starting from the next academic year. A certificate of appreciation will be awarded to all Student Academic Advisers upon their completion of service. It is hoped that this new Student Academic Advising scheme will flourish the existing academic advising system which features different layers of advising from staff.

(B) Roles of Student Academic Advisers

  1. To advise students (Year 1 and above) on various academic matters by email or in person during add/ drop periods and by email all year round.

  1. Possible areas for advising include: how to adapt to the university life, course selection, major/ minor options, programme-related questions, ways to achieve excellent performance, experiential learning opportunities, time management, hall life, etc.

  1. To refer more specific enquiries to the parties concerned when necessary, such as Faculty Academic Advisers, administrators/ UG Coordinators, and Residential Student Advisers.

(C) Eligibility

Non-final-year BA and BA&LLB students in 2017-18

(Note: BA&BEd(LangEd) students please approach the Faculty of Education for matters of Student Academic Advisers)

(D) Work Schedule for 2018-19

From February 9 to March 9, 2018

Interview of shortlisted applicants and announcement of results

April 2018
  1. Training session for Student Academic Advisers
  2. Publication of Student Academic Advisers' basic information on the Faculty's webpage
August and September 2018, and January 2019
  1. Introduction of Student Advisers in the Faculty orientation activities in August; and
  2. Peer consultation sessions conducted by Student Advisers during the add/ drop periods in September and January
May 2019 A certificate of appreciation will be awarded to all Student Academic Advisers upon their completion of service
